New Rotary/Oscillating Crossheads From Guill Tool

West Warwick, RI – A new series of highly engineered rotary/oscillating crossheads designed for advanced processing features multiple capabilities that improve product strength and eliminate secondary-stage processing requirements, is now available from Guill Tool & Engineering Co., Inc.

Use of the rotary/oscillating crosshead results in the reduction or elimination of ovality, an absence of weld lines; the ability to cross-link various polymer materials in addition to reducing the labor process and extrusion costs.

Aerospace, automotive, medical and other high-technology applications are ideal candidates for this advanced rotary/oscillating extrusion technology. The crossheads are manufactured in stainless steel, D2, Monel, Inconel® and Hastelloy®.

“The rotary/oscillating series has a lot more options than ordinary tooling,” said Bill Conley, Guill’s Sales Manager. “For example, the extruded polymer chain can be aligned in a radial manner versus one normal longitudinal direction. That means the polymer extrusion shape is approximately 30% stronger, yet uses one-third less raw material than traditional extrusions.”

The rotary/oscillating series of crossheads provides even-heat distribution (due to the built-in cartridge heaters) and better temperature control.

The rotary/oscillating series offers an easy-to-clean, one-piece body. Key options for this series include: an adjustable gum space and adjustable concentricity to achieve greater control of the extruded end product.

Production versatility is enhanced by the crosshead’s variable speed and direction capabilities. Custom programming is available. Guill’s control panels are engineered to suit even the most unique requirements.

Guill Tool manufactures tips, dies, and breaker plates using state-of-the-art computerized CNC machining and EDM equipment. Furthermore, engineering services using the latest CAD systems are available for custom-designed extrusion tooling product such as crossheads, tips, clamps, flanges, forming rolls, spiderless inline dies, dies, swing gates, breaker plates, special equipment and sizing dies.

Guill Tool received ISO certification in 1995, the first major extrusion tooling company to meet international standards. Guill Tool has long been recognized as one of the leading established designers and manufacturers of custom extrusion tooling for wire, cable, fiber optics, medical tubes, wood composites, automotive tubes, plastic compounding, custom applications, rubber, profile, industrial pipes, hose and tubes, blow molding, food and packaging.

Guill Tool provides education and training for the extrusion industry with plastic and aluminum model heads, fully illustrated operating manuals for step-by-step assembly and disassembly, training videotapes, and classes on the care and cleaning of extrusion tooling.

Founded in1962 by A. Roger Guillemette, Guill Tool was first established as a job shop supplying tips, dies, crossheads and replacement parts to the wire, cable, plastic and rubber industries in New England. Eventually, Guill Tool became a supplier for the entire United States and Canada, and today enjoys a worldwide market presence.
